Celebrating National Hug Day during the COVID-19 Pandemic

It is 21 January, and that means it is National Hug Day! Unfortunately,
most of us are still neck deep in the COVID-19 pandemic, so hugs for many of us
are off the menu. It’s no secret though that the pandemic has made some people feel
incredibly isolated.

So, let’s talk alternatives! Instead of sharing physical
contact this National Hug Day, when greeting your friends and family why not
try and elbow tap instead. Need more than just a quick exchange? Why not grab a
friend and share a cup of tea, do some gardening or take a walk in the park
together. If that sounds too overwhelming, perhaps you could cuddle a pet, or
maybe even invest in a weighted blanket. Remember, if you are struggling, always
tell someone about it or ask
for help
.

Pandemic aside, for
some people
hugs represent a form of physical contact that can be
completely overwhelming and uncomfortable. Remember that everyone is different,
and if someone doesn’t want a hug to feel comforted, that’s okay too.

Feeling overwhelmed?
